Hi 6th Graders. Here are the guideline for the Potato Lab Report. It is due Wednesday, and I will go over the requirements in more detail in class on Monday. But for those of you who want to get an early start on it this weekend, this is want I want:
-Experimental Question
-Hypothesis
-Manipulated Variable
-Responding Variable
-(3) Controlled Variables
I want you to focus on the results section. Include:
-A paragraph explanation of how the plot with cut plants did compared with the normal plants.
-Explain how photosynthesis might have affected the results.
-Mention: medians, maximum values, minimum values, and any other values you think are noteworthy.
-A data table of just the averages.
-A box plot (we will construct this in class on Monday).
-One other graph (ex. bar, line, pie)
I will post a link to the whole class results next week (after you all have a chance to guess the total weight) that you can use for your graphs. You should also bring your USB drive to class on Monday.
Today I took the potatoes to the Food Bank. They were very happy to receive them. We weighed them there as well, and the weight matched (pretty closely) the sum of all the individual potatoes that you all weighed, which was good news.
Have a great weekend!
Please have a link on your blog about the patoto waight units, so I can have a head start on the assignment!

hi this is anonymous aka Lucas. should we predict the weight for classes or just 1 period :)
ReplyDeleteI will post a link with all the potato weights on Monday. That way people still have a chance to guess the weight until then.
ReplyDeleteYes Lucas, predict the weight for the entire 6th grade.
We do a hypothesis, right?
ReplyDeleteBen A.
what do you mean by just the averages that would be only 4 cells
ReplyDeleteo sorry last comment by everett
ReplyDeleteare we also sapossed to do all the other stuff like proceadure and whatever else
ReplyDelete3 1/2 pages of work!!!!! :)
ReplyDelete- andre
Nice work Andre, I look forward to reading it!
ReplyDeleteLuna no need to write your procedure this time, just include what I have asked for above.
Everett your data table should be simple. A 4-cell table is fine. Basicly I don't want a data table with all the raw data in it.
Good Luck All!
