It was a lot of work, but I managed to grade all the quizzes today. Your grades are in teacherease with individual comments. It was a tough quiz, no one got 100%. The class averages were 81.4% for third period and 80.0% for fourth period. We will go over some common mistakes on the quiz tomorrow, so you can see where you went wrong. I'm handing back your quizzes tomorrow so that you can do corrections over spring break. I will accept corrections on the short answer questions only. If you want to submit corrections you need to re-write your answer on a separate sheet of paper, staple it to your quiz, and turn it back in to me on the first day back after spring break.
Be prepared to get some dirt on your hands in science tomorrow, either in the classroom or in the garden if it is not raining too hard!

Protein, Carbs, and Lipids Quiz Review
The weather does not look the best this week for planting in the garden. Our best chance of getting dry weather to plant is probably Friday, so we will have the quiz on Thursday. If we cant get outside on Friday we may at least be able to prepare some starts. The quiz is going to cover everything we learned about Protein, Carbohydrates, and Lipids over the last few weeks, focusing on the energy. Here is what you should review for the quiz.
- Examples of food that contain Protein, Carbs and Fats.
- Elements found in Protein, Carbs and Fats
- How to calculate calories in food based on grams of Protein, Carbs and Fat.
- Understanding how to read Nutritional Information labels on food.
- Understanding serving size vs. total amount of calories on packets.
- Total weight vs Net weight.
- Sugars vs Starches.
- Conversion to energy of Carbohydrates.
- Examples of different types of sugars and where they are found.

Homework for Monday
Hope you are having a great weekend 6th graders. Here is the assignment for Monday.
A graph of one of the tests (pH, DO, Turbidity etc.) that includes a title, axis labels, and is easy to read.
Also answer the following questions.
- What was your hypothesis? Did you think there would be much of a difference between Site 1 and Site 2? Did you think there would be a difference between Fall and Winter. Mention all tests DO, Temperature, DO Saturation, B.O.D., pH, Nitrates, Turbidity.
- Explain the graph that you created, what does it show? Does this match up with your hypothesis? Why do you think this happened ?
- How do you think we could improve on our procedure? What problems did we have?

Science Fair Conclusion
Hope you are all enjoying your long weekend. I just want to remind you all that your science fair project conclusion is due on Tuesday. This should be a brief summary of your findings. Make sure to include whether your results support you hypothesis, and include a brief discussion of why or why not. Evaluate your experimental procedure making comments about its success. Suggest possible changes you would make if you were to re-do the experiment. And discuss what you could do next, if you were to continue your experiment.
The final project is due on Friday, that is less than one week away now! Remember, you need to get your own poster board like the ones I showed you in class. The standard size is 36 by 48 inches, and they are available at most office supply stores like Office Depot and Staples.
